Yutong Sun

Yutong Sun is recognized for his profound artistry, poetic expression, and refined musical voice. He has been described by Gramophone as delivering "world-class work" and praised by Ludwig van Montréal for his "originality... real storytelling, bold and crisp."

He is a laureate of several major international piano competitions, including Second Prize at the Santander International Piano Competition, First Prize at the Jaén International Piano Competition, and Third Prize at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition. He is also a prizewinner at prestigious competitions including the Bösendorfer, Horowitz, New Orleans, and Ferrol competitions.

Sun has appeared at major venues including Salle Cortot in Paris, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Jordan Hall in Boston, Saint Petersburg Philharmonia Hall, Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras including the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Galicia, and the China NCPA Orchestra, collaborating with conductors including Hugh Wolff, Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Nicholas McGegan, and Earl Lee.

He has participated in international festivals including Chamber Music Northwest, Beethoven Easter Festival, and Kissinger Sommer, collaborating with leading artists such as David Shifrin, Paul Watkins, Cuarteto Quiroga, Haesun Paik, and Sa Chen.

His recordings include a debut album released by Naxos as part of its Laureate Series, and his most recent album Lumina (2025), released on NCPA Classics, featuring the complete Brahms late piano works (Opp. 116–119).

Sun studied at the New England Conservatory under Alexander Korsantia and Dang Thai Son, where he completed the Artist Diploma program. He previously studied at the Middle School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing under Professor Hua Chang. He is currently on the piano faculty of the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music.

Highlights of the 2025–26 season include appearances at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Sala Verdi in Milan, as well as at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Taipei National Concert Hall, and the opening ceremony of the Tbilisi International Piano Competition.
